Tolman was praised for her performance as Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair said that Tolman "calmly took over" the show. Critics' Choice Television Award Best Supporting Actress In A Movie/Miniseries. Nominations for Best Actress categories at Emmy Awards, Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Television Awards. Tolman also had a role on The Mindy Show playing Abby Berman a romance writer. In 2015, she played a supporting part in Michael Dougherty s comedy horror movie Krampus. Tolman's breakout role in the film as Fargo caused her to drop numerous supporting roles, including those of mothers, best friends and wives. Tolman was searching for more unconventional roles. In 2017, Tolman starred in ABC's Downward Dog, based on the Animal Media Group web series, It was canceled after a single season. Tolman was a part of the ABC drama, Emergence. The series premiered September 24, 2019 and ended after one season, on May 21, 2021, despite the fact that Tolman tweeted it received "pretty decent" ratings. Also, she was an guest on the NBC show Good Girls. In 2021, she appeared in the role of Alma Filcott in the second season of the drama show Why Women Kill, and played Natalie Green in The Facts of Life portion of the third season of Live in Front of a Studio Audience.
